Ferry Corsten revived Gouryella, Armin did the same for Rising Star, Mark Sherry continued with his “Tech Trance Revolution” and now, joining the list of Trance Djs/Producers seeking to revive the old school sound of Trance in 2015 is none other than the current flag bearer of the ‘In search of Sunrise’ brand, Richard Durand.
His new single “Face of Chaos” which marked the launch of his new musical direction & record label gives you a clear idea of the return-to-the-underground reorientation that Richard Durand seeks to invoke…in other words, Harder, Faster, Bigger, Bolder… Darker!
Explaining the reasoning behind the ‘Reloaded’ move, Richard said:
As my fans know, I love trance in all its flavours & colours. That’s been reflected in the very broad area of genre I’ve produced & played over my career. However, in the more recent times, I feet that became just too, too broad! I decided a while back that there was a need to focus on what inspires me the most. With that came the realisation that taking my music back underground was a necessity. To that end, I’ve been locked in the studio (having some of the best production months of my life!), developing a lot of music, which – as you’ll see & hear – falls inside a far tighter grouping. Stylistically that means much tougher & grittier tracks, with faster BPMs and all coming with my own twisted twist to them! The next year or so is going to be very exciting and very different. I hope you’ll come along with me and enjoy this ride!
The release of his new single “Face of Chaos” also marks the launch of his new imprint “Reloaded Music” (which will replace his previous Terminal-4 label) while it was also announced that a new, more underground slanted artist album (his first since 2012’s ‘Richard Durand Versus The World’) would be released on the same label in late 2015.
The other major announcement related to the “Reloading” of Richard Durand’s sound came from the mix compilation front. Having put together the last six editions of the ‘In Search of Sunrise‘ series, it was announced that ‘In Search Of Sunrise 13.5 – Amsterdam’ (released this July) was to be the last edition which would be compiled and mixed by Richard Durand, as he chose to relinquish the reins of the much revered series. Tracking his new, more propulsive musical theme, in 2016 Durand will be launching a fresh music-compilation series ‘Reloaded – The First Round – Mixed By Richard Durand’, which will become the first in his new, yearly dual-disc compilation line.
Also in sync with the shift will be a raft of other Reloaded-tipped change-ups. Reloaded Radio will be available as a Podcast, through Richard’s Soundcloud & Mixcloud channels. Airing on the last Friday of each month, the hour-long show will be a tightly structured summary of his current dance floor destroyers, along with a 15-minute speed-mix from a ‘Reloaded-minded’ DJ each month.
If you’re a fan of the Harder, Faster, Bigger, Bolder & Darker sound of Trance, this is definitely something that is bound to get you excited! So buckle up! And as Richard himself says…”Enjoy the ride!”
